Affiliate link cloakers - to cloak or not to cloak?
So you’ve set up your web site and you’re promoting affiliate products.
Have you got a link cloaker? Why do you need one?
Well there is some spy-ware that catches affiliate links when clicked on them and replaces the code with the developer’s code so you could be missing out on commissions.
What to do about it?
I’ve found a free link cloaking product called “Profit protector”

You can pay up to $67 for a link cloaking product. They are complicated to install if you don’t know much about creating databases.
Profit protector creates a java html file that you simply upload to your server and then point to it as per your standard link. People will have to have java enabled in their browsers. Most people do.
You can download this program here
Happy Cloaking!

Hi Lisa
After you contacted me on Twitter I decided to go and check out your profile, which led me here to your blog.
I see that you are also in Australia and a student of Alex Jeffreys, so I have added you to my “Students Of Alex Jeffeys” blogroll.
On Affiliate Link Cloakers…yes, I think they are essential, especially if you’re promoting Clickbank products.
Most people, when they see a Clickbank hoplink, simply replace the advertisers ‘nickname’ with their own and BUY the product from themselves.
This means, the advertiser has wasted his time and money promoting the product….and the buyer saves 50% or more, by buying through their own Clickbank link.

Hi Lisa,
I like your blog. You’ve written some very heplful posts.
Do you want to know how to add your PPP to your side-bar so it’s always visible?
If so check out the ‘How To’ page on my blog and click on the ‘Add An Ad..’ link to find out how. Whilst there also check out the ‘Resources’ page - there’s loads of stuff that will be helpful to you.
To your success,
Dave (an F500 student)
P.S. Please pop over and come and say hi on my blog when you’ve got a moment.

Hello, This is Vince,
Dave sent me to your blog to download the affiliate cloaking software.
I downloaded the software add my link in the Profit Protector. It then
said to save and name the file. I named it the affiliate product. Then it said to upload the file to your server. I tried this several ways. Up loaded the folder under public_html and put the generated html pages inside. Did not work - so I tried to upload just the pages them self under public_html. (still did not work) I did notice a few things, first when you save and rename the file in profit protector it saves the file in upper case html. Example guru.HTML I tried to rename the folder and that did not work. Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong here. Your help would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance - Vince

Hi Vince
I played around with the link cloaker tonight. The key it seems, is when naming the file make sure you name it .html for example it already saves it as a HTML but save it as “Vince.html” as the filename. I upload mine to the blog folder as it’s easier to have the http://www.yourdomainname/blog/Vince.html as the link. I’ve discovered an even better link cloaker through wordpress which i’ll put in my next post. Hope this helps.
